At the still point of the turning world ... there the dance is. ~ T.S. Eliot
Kumbhak is the exquisite point in breathing between the inhale and the exhale - the point of perfect stillness. The practice of Kumbhak during pranayama (breathwork) cultivates deep calm and inner quiet. We created Kumbhak Yoga to offer tools for developing this inner quality, and creating a harmonious balance in our lives.
The word yoga means to join together, or unite. In unity we find our balance - the unity of the mind and the heart, the body and the spirit, the male and the female, the sun and the moon, yin and yang, purusha and prakriti... a sweet union of opposites. Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, plays an integral role in creating this state of equanimity. Making Ayurvedic choices in our life, together with practicing yoga, contributes immeasurably to our spiritual, mental, and physical health.
The practice of yoga promotes a holistic way of being. It teaches us how to be alive in the richest, most rewarding way. And yoga is much more than physical poses – it is a process for growing inner strength, peace, and compassion. It is a practice, not an end.
Yoga is our guide, and Ayurveda and Buddhist thought informs all we do at Kumbhak Yoga.
